Genres and Facts….

Full disclosure: I’m a nut about literature being factual in all but science fiction, science fantasy, and horror.

Facts are facts, and I say that “there is a lot of fact in fiction.” Have you read a book that got the facts wrong when it should have been accurate, especially in genres like historical fiction? What did that do to your confidence in reading the rest of the book?

Look….it’s not that difficult to research any topic today, especially with the depth and breadth of the Internet. However, you need to be sure to use credible sites, not opinions. While there are many credible sites, there are also equal opinions. Don’t be fooled, and be sure your historical sites are credible.

Nonfiction is non-fiction, whether historical fiction or creative nonfiction. If the genre says non-fiction, it’s not fiction. If it is historical fiction, then the historical has to be accurate, while your story can be made up.
